Putting Analyzers - iPING Putting App

Product Reviews on Demand

iping-putting-app-review.jpgPutting analyzers like the iPING putting app from PING Golf are attempting to revolutionize the way golfers receive feedback on their putting stroke. Gone are the days of bulky over-sized putting analyzers. Now the iPING putting app is here, and all you need to get started is the PING putting cradle ($30) and an iPhone 4 or iPod Touch (4th Gen), the App is totally FREE! In a nutshell, the iPING putter app calculates and tracks your putting handicap to help improve your putting. In a game of inches, a great putting stroke is the fastest way to lower your overall score. We think PING might be on to something special here.

To learn a little more about the iPING putting app and how it works, check out this instructional video with golf teaching professional Jeff Ritter...

Early last week the boys over at PING Golf approached us about testing out their newest innovation, needless to say we were flattered and quickly took them up on their offer. After spending some quality time on the practice green, we're confident in the results of our testing. Now, we'd like to share those results with you!

Before testing started we were a little skeptical on how we'd actually review an app... So we set out with a few preliminary questions. The answers surprised us greatly!

Is it user-friendly? Absolutely! Actually, the ease of use and simplicity of the app and cradle is what impressed us most. You'll never have to ask yourself "am I doing this right?" everything is laid out seamlessly.

Does it work? Simply put, YES! We tested the cradle and app on several different putter models and the results speak for themselves. Each time we tested, flaws were found in our strokes. After isolating these flaws and making the appropriate corrections we found our putts stopping consistently closer to the hole. With many putts dropping in one stroke! The more we practiced with the iPING app the more our putting handicap was lowered. Over time it's easy to believe that this app will most defiantly lower your putts per round.

Who should buy it? Anyone and everyone looking shave strokes off their score card. Honestly, there's one thing the iPING app won't do, and that's make you a worse putter. If you take the time and work with with this app, you'll certainly lower your golf score over time. It may not show results your looking for in the first session, (though it did for us) but like with most things, practice makes perfect. And that's what this app is designed to do... Help you practice the correct stroke for more consistent putting.

The Bottom Line: We highly recommend the iPING putting app to anyone with $30 in their pocket for the PING cradle, an iPhone 4 or iPod (4th gen), and the desire to lower their putts per round. We recommend you spend at least four to five sessions with the app before playing your next round. Lower your putting handicap with the iPING app then try bringing what you've learned to the course.

How to get it: The iPING app is a free download from the iTunes App Store for the iPhone 4 and the smaller iPod touch (4th gen). The iPING app works in conjunction with a PING cradle ($30 MSRP), which holds the mobile device and clips onto the putter shaft just below the grip. Cradles are available for either the iPhone 4 or iPod touch (4th gen) due to the different sizes of the devices.
