Coleman Instant Tents are said to be the easiest camping tents to set up, going from packed to fully assembled in less than 60 seconds. Not only do they require little to no skill to pitch, they also come standard with Coleman's new WeatherTec system, which is guaranteed to keep you dry even with out a rain-fly! We recently had an opportunity to put Coleman's latest camping innovation through the paces ourselves.
The instant tent from Coleman is available in a variety of sizes, including: 4, 6 and 8 person. While yes, we could go into great detail explaining the setup and tear down of the instant tent, we figured we cut back on the verbiage for a moment and give you something a little more easy on the eyes! Check out the following embedded videos to see what we're talking about...
As you can see, the instant tent is no joke! It can be unpacked and setup in under 1 minute easily with two people. My experience with the tent wasn't quite this quick, though I was setting up alone. Personally I was able to setup the tent in just under 1 minute 40 seconds on my first try. With some practice (or help from a buddy) I'm sure I could shave some time off my record.
After learning of Coleman's instant tent and it's amazing setup time, we quickly became concerned about it's tear down time. We figured there had to be a catch... well, there wasn't! Tear down of the instant tent isn't quite as quick as the set up, but overall it's very simple and when compared to traditional tents it's much faster to get packed up.
Design: (9 out of 10) Built for camping pros and novices alike, the design of the instant tent is user friendly, spacious, and structurally sound. We liked the large screen windows for ventilation and the integrated side pockets which work great for holding your wallet, keys, etc...
Protection: (10 out of 10) When it came to rain and wind the instant tent held up great. It was greatly worrisome to sleep in a tent without a rain-fly and imminent rainfall headed our way, but to our great relief the instant tent did the job and kept us high and dry! After 3 hours of steady rain the inside of the tent showed no signs of leakage.
Durability: (9 out of 10) The stitching and fabric used to create this tent is excellent quality. The walls are thin yet durable. The flooring is thick and would be extremely difficult to puncture. Overall we think the instant tent could withstand several years of camping abuse.
Value: (9.5 out of 10) Clocking in with a base price of $165 this tent is a great value in our opinion. Most traditional tents commonly sell for $50 to $75 more.
The Bottom Line: Whether you're camping rookie or seasoned vet, the Coleman Instant Tent is solid purchase! It takes the work out of setting up camp and helps you get to the relaxing, fishing and campfire cooking you signed up for. The combination of it's quick setup and tear down accompanied by the Coleman WeatherTec system makes it easiest, most worry free tent we've ever pitched. If you're in the market for a new tent this season we strongly suggest you give the Coleman Instant Tent some serious consideration!
