Mountain biking injuries have declined by 56% over the last 14 years according to a study by the Center for Injury Research and Policy. Apparently ER visits due to "mountain biking mishaps" fell from 23,000 to 10,000 during the study period, 1995-2007. It seems that this current trend is thanks to a decrease in the number of actual mountain bikers, more advanced bike design like disc brakes and dual-suspension systems. It's great that this is the trend but we'd have to add that people being more skilled at mountain biking and better protective gear probably have a lot to do with it too.
