BMW’s i Solar Carport shows that underneath all the BMW muscle is a desire to sustainable and produce products that push mobility technology to the much needed present. BMW’s i Solar Carport comes in after their i3 and i8 electric vehicles and is made from bamboo, which is considered a renewable resource. The suns energy is harnessed via high-grade glass-on-glass solar modules that send electricity to EVs via BMW’s i Wallbox Pro. A Wallbox indicates the amount of solar energy collected, and once vehicles are at power capacity, the energy can be redirected for domestic use.
“With the solar carport concept we opted for a holistic approach: not only is the vehicle itself sustainable, but so is its energy supply,” explains Tom Allemann, who is responsible for the carport design at BMW Group DesignworksUSA. “This is therefore an entirely new generation of carports that allows energy to be produced in a simple and transparent way. It renders the overarching theme of lightweight design both visible and palpable.”
So far this is still in concept stage and as far as we know their have not been any talks about production, but sign us up when you're ready to go BMW! So cool!
