grown-skis-high-tech-eco-freeride-skis.jpg

German brand Grown Skis have recently won the VOLVO SportsDesign AWARD - Ecodesign 2008 for there overall conceptualization in growing a sustainable product (skis) and company. Grown Skis locally produce and use a low-energy intensive process using 100% green energy sources. Grown Skis minimize the use of non-natural materials and use as little carbon as possible and no fibreglass, plastic top sheet or sidewalls, foil with prints or varnish while producing high performance free-ride skis. Grown combines wood with the high-tech material carbon in a timeless, pure and simple design, with the wooden top sheet oiled. The result is a that 80% of the ski is made of locally grown and produced wood. Then a recycling program promotes the reuse of the old skis to make bed frames, while wood scraps are used to build ski clips. We love seeing green products commemorated for being green. We'll keep you posted with their products! Grown Skis.

The result: The EP Pro Skis are the "fattest, smartest, most progressive freestyle powder ski ever created." These are definitely some of the coolest ski graphic designs of the year! Line Skis.

The First Skis Made Out Of Stone by Simon Jacomet

first-ever-stone-skis-simon-jacomet.jpg

Simon Jacomet and his team at Zai, who are based in the beautiful monastic village of Disentis, Switzerland, design and craft skis with a reputation of being the most advanced, high-spec skis in the world. Keep in mind that only 500 pairs are made each year. With Innovation at the heart of Zai's mission to revolutionize the skiing industry, they have created these very special limited edition Spada skis. Spada is the romantic word for Sword....how sexy. These Spada skis are the first to be made with a base of Grisons granite. Stone was used because it is rendered bendable by Technocarbon of Munich’s new Carbon Fibre Stone technology, has enormous compressive strength and resilience and because it retains its shape and dampens vibrations. The result is a ski with incomparable quickness, grasp and smoothness.
